A Social Concerns Initiative

The mission of the Social Concerns Initiative (SCI) at the Catholic University of America is to increase the awareness of social justice issues through advocacy, education, and institutionalization into the CUA culture for the better improvement of the of the CUA community members, students, faculty, staff, and administration, as well as the DC local community, immediate and foremost the Brookland community adjacent to the university campus. This mission will be carried out through the action of students On campus and their work with those in the community."

and it demands respect for the equel human dignity of all persons.

Habitat for Humanity  (HFH)
Organization President: Jason Willis
'Habitat's' purpose is to involve students in Habitat for Humanity International. This means that students will be involved in bringing simple, decent hoursing to poorer members of the community through several programs and
activities provided by the university chapter.


 

Peace and Justice Studies Program
Organization President: Dr. Barbieri
A variety of classes focused on important peace and justice issues throughout the world.  This is a university minor - consider it!

 

Social Justice Network (SJN)
Organization President: Laura Collins

'The Network' is a organization that brings students together to actively educate ourselves and the campus about issues of justice.  In turn, we use this education and knowledge to then actively work towards justice for all people.  All are welcome and all ideas are encouraged!

Alpha Phi Omega (APO)
'APO' is an organization on the Catholic University of America campus that provides service to the campus, community and nation. In addition, it is part of the education opportunity that provides practical skills and leadership development.

 

Pax Christi (PC)
Organization President: Jeff Crum

'Pax' is a chapter of a national peace and justice movement across the world.  It is a faith-based group who view issues of injustice with the eyes of faith.  Pax Christi is a wonderful way to bring together your faith and feelings about justice!

 

Social Service Organization(SSO)
Organization President: Jeff Crum

This is the student organization within the National Catholic School of Social Service.  As a social work undergrad, you are automatically a member!  Inquire with your professors about the first meeting and get involved immediately!  There are numerous opportunities to do service and be educated about those who are marginalized.

 

Community Service Council (CSC)
'CSC' is a consortium of interested students working to build
awareness around community service in the local community.
